DROP That Spindle! (FULL)
Drop Spindle workshop!! 

Have you always wondered how yarn was made? Wanted to learn to spin, but just don’t know where to start? This class is for you! Come learn about the basics of fibre and try your hand at spinning wool! No experience necessary. We will create some funky yarn from roving, batts and locks as well as discuss what you can do with your new skill!

**Each participant will take their assembled drop spindle home with them along with 100g of wool!**

WHAT: This is a 5 week Beginner Level Class which teaches the basics of clay work on the wheel. Students will learn how to centre clay, build cylinders, and attach handles and spouts. Everyone will learn the basics and then continue, with guidance, at their own pace. The goal is learning and enjoying. Students will complete their pieces with glaze.

Paint & Wine Night Friday Feb 17, 6pm-8pm. Theme: Mandalas (FULL)

Colour, Canvas, & the Circular

An evening of art in the round. Join us for an inspirational evening of art through the use of basic colour theory and repetitive imagery participants will create a one of a kind Mandala. Mandala is sanskrit word and represents wholeness, it is like a blueprint and “can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of the life itself — a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite...” - The Mandala Project. Participants can pick any theme they like for their mandala, from a connection with nature to their favourite food.  Instructor Sarah Elizabeth.

Tickets $50 for Non-VISAC members, $45 for VISAC members. Ticket gets you 1st glass of wine, all art supplies, instructions from local artist, and dessert refreshments.

Art Outside the Box (FULL)

2D Art Course for Youth!

Experiment with unconventional 2D Art! This class will look at odd and fun uses for some regular old items from icing sugar to junk mail and tinfoil. We will reuse old magazines, paint with string (its not what you think!), weave a wicked wall hanging, make an edible picture and do some extra creative finger painting all in the name of art!

-5 Week course on Mondays 3:30-5pm, Starting Feb 6 (no class on Family Day Feb13)

-For Ages 8-12*, all levels $65 total course cost.

A Weaving Meditation! (FULL)

Take a day for yourself, come and learn the benefits of working with your hands in a fun and relaxed way!

Assemble your own frame loom, which is yours to keep, while taking in a brief history of weaving. Focusing on weaving in a Saori style (meditative weaving) participants will be guided through the basic principals of weaving while creating their own one of a kind wall hanging from locally dyed wool, handspun wool, thrifted materials, silk and other items. Additional weaving supplies will be available for purchase from the instructor, Sarah Elizabeth.

Cost: $60 + $15 material fee.

Fall into a world of sculptural art, explore and create with new materials each week, from common kitchen supplies (tinfoil) to professional polymer clay, to local wool, to recycled paper and found objects children will learn the fundamentals of sculpture while enjoying the freedom to explore and connect with their creative selves.

Hand Building Pottery Class Nov-Dec 2016


Instructor: Theresa LeRose


What: This is a 5 week Beginner Level Class in learning slab & hand building techniques in pottery.  Students will make basic shapes and then be taught how to manipulate and change the surface shape, add addition shapes and textures using multiple methods to create  unique pieces.  Students are taught how to use a slab roller, extruder, glazes, molds, and other fun pottery tools.

Where: Trail Potters Club Studio lower level of Selkirk college building downtown.

When: 11am-1pm, 5x Saturdays starting Nov 5th

Class Fee: $120 for VISAC Members $145 for non-members

$15 material fee to be paid to instructor 1st day of class
