History

The Greater Trail Area Creative Activities Centre Society for the Visual Arts (VISAC) is a non-profit Society founded in 1989. An elected volunteer board oversees the affairs of the centre and public participation and support is encouraged. Member clubs already active in VISAC are the West Kootenay Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Kootenay V and the Rossland Art Club.

Mission Statement

VISAC will operate a public art gallery and will assist the community in developing creative opportunities for all ages and skill levels in visual arts and fine crafts through exhibitions, workshops and classes.

Membership Benefits

  • Reduced entry fees on all "call to entry" shows throughout the exhibition year.

  • Flexible access to a shared studio space that accommodates watercolour, dry media, acrylic and water-soluble oils.

Facilities

The VISAC Gallery and  Creative Art Centre has:

  • ·         Pottery Studio with 4 wheels, 2 kilns, extruder and slab roller
  • ·         Large Gallery space
  • ·         Creative Workspace for Visual Artists
  • ·         Lapidary Workshop

Workshops and Classes

VISAC offers workshops in painting, pottery and lapidary throughout the year. VISAC also collaborates with Selkirk College Community Education to offer visual art and art history classes during the college's winter/spring sessions.  Please call the gallery at (250) 364-1181 or email at director@visacgallery.com for more information on upcoming workshops and/or classes.

Gallery Exhibitions

The VISAC Gallery proudly supports emerging and established artists form the Boundary, East and West Kootenay districts, and our yearly exhibition schedule reflects the variety and talent found in our mountainous region. From solo artists to group shows, the VISAC Gallery strives in presenting the area's best and brightest to its Greater Trail community. In addition to our planned exhibitions, the gallery partners with local cultural groups, such as the West Kootenay Camera Club, to present exhibitions that reflect our community's concerns and interests. The VISAC Gallery's current operating hours are Monday to Wednesday from 10 am - 2 pm, and Thursday - Friday 2 pm - 6 pm.

Below the Bailey Boutique

The VISAC Gallery plays host to "Below the Bailey Boutique" a pop-up shop specializing in homegrown talent. The boutique carries artisan giftware of heirloom quality created by craftsmen throughout the West Kootenay area. We also feature framed artwork by artists whose abilities in watercolour, oil and acrylic are always guaranteed to amaze and inspire! Below the Bailey Boutique current operating hours are Tuesday-Friday from 12-4pm.
