Castlegar photographer Gary Drouin points his camera at urban landscapes – mostly down the streets in Trail and Rossland – for the next exhibition at the VISAC Gallery.

“A Trail of Street Photography,” which runs May 22 to June 18, features 30 photographs, mostly of Trail and Rossland but also of Toronto and Vancouver.

“I love to walk the streets with a camera in hand,” said Drouin, who studied photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Michigan. “The sights and sounds are very inspiring. I see contrasts between new architectural features and general urban decay. I am drawn to both of these sensibilities.”

The Windsor, Ont. native uses a ”minimalist approach” to his urban photography and generally prefers to work in black and white.

“For me, the environment is all about people, buildings and transportation. Shapes, lines, light and shadows dictate at what point I capture an image. Timing and anticipation provide the precise moment of exposure. I love both modern and historical buildings and cityscapes and, when incorporated together, they are stunning.”

Drouin has had solo shows of his works in Detroit, Scotland, Toronto and Windsor, Ontario.
